Richard Korpan

Richard Korpan is an accomplished entrepreneur, having excelled in a broad spectrum of businesses, including electric utilities, telecommunications, real estate development, insurance, and banking. He was elected to the Alliance Defending Freedom Board of Directors in October 2013 and serves on the Finance and Human Resources Committee and the External Relations Committee.

From 1989 until his retirement in 2001, Korpan served in various positions, including chairman, president, and CEO of Florida Progress Corporation, a Fortune 500 diversified electric utility holding company based in St. Petersburg, Florida. Under his tenure, the organization had annual revenues approaching $4B, assets in excess of $6B, more than 9,000 employees and operations in 22 states, Canada and Mexico.

Prior to joining Florida Progress Corporation, Korpan was president and CEO of Pacific Diversified Capital Company, a subsidiary that was comprised of the non-utility operations of San Diego Gas and Electric Company. From 1979 to 1986, Korpan held several positions with SDG&E, including senior vice president and chief financial officer, group vice president of finance and treasurer. He also practiced law in Colorado and served in various financial positions at Public Service Company of Colorado.

Throughout his professional career, Korpan served as a member of the Business Roundtable and the Board of the National Association of Manufacturers. He was a board member of Take Stock in Children, Florida Council of 100, Florida Council on Economic Education, Florida 2012, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and the Black Hills Corporation. He was also President of Ruth Eckerd Performing Arts Center in Clearwater, Florida.

Since his retirement, Korpan has been a private investor, an active member of his church, and a respected community volunteer. He has been a member on the Executive Advisory Board of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver and the Daniels Advisory Board for the Business Ethics and Legal Studies Department.

Korpan is a graduate of Northwestern University, the University of Denver School of Law, and the Stanford Executive Program. He and his wife, Patricia, have served as Alliance Defending Freedom Ambassadors since 2005 and reside in Evergreen, Colorado.
